Our story

Likat surf house was never meant to be just a surf camp. What started like a Mentawai family business grew into a home opened to travelers who come for the waves, and stay for the vibes.

Whether you’ve had the best session of your life or just your first ride, there’s always a spot for you at the table to share good coffee and stories.

We believe the best part of travel is connection between people —Likat surf house is a space where it’s easy to meet others, to laugh, to rest, and to feel like home.

How to get to us

From Jakarta
Jakarta is the main gateway into Indonesia, with many international flights arriving each day from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth among others. From Jakarta, it is easy to continue to Padang with a domestic flight. Because of its many connections, Jakarta is often the most direct and practical way to reach this part of Indonesia.

From Bali

Many travellers choose to pass through Bali, as there are frequent international flights. Bali can also be a nice place to pause along the way — especially if you need to buy some surf gear before heading on to Sumatra.
From Bali, you will still need to take another flight to reach Padang, usually with a short stop in another Indonesian city such as Jakarta.

From Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is another common transit point, especially for those looking for more flexible or lower-cost flights. Airlines like AirAsia often have good options if your travel dates are open. There are even direct flights from Paris with Malaysia Airlines.

There are direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Padang. You can choose to spend a short time in the city before continuing on to Mentawai islands.

Just off the western coast of Sumatra, the Mentawai Islands are home to some of the most consistent, beautiful waves in the world. There are gentle breaks for those who are still learning, and powerful, hollow waves for experienced surfers who feel ready to take them on.

Reaching the islands can seem like a long journey at first. But with a bit of local guidance and understanding, the trip becomes much easier than it appears. Many people even come to enjoy the journey itself, as part of the whole experience of coming here.

FIRST: REACHING padang

Mentawai Fast Ferry
The fast ferry usually takes around 4 hours to reach Sipora island. It does not run every day, only on certain days of the week, so it is important to plan ahead — contact us to get the last schedule.

Many surfers prefer this option because it is quicker than the public ferry, which can take much longer. The ride is generally comfortable, but the ocean can sometimes be rough.

It is always wise to check your schedule in advance. The sea and weather can change quickly here, and delays or cancellations do happen. If possible, allow a little extra time in your plans so you can travel without stress.

Public Slow Ferry
There is also a cheap alternative: the public ferry that travels overnight. It is slower and more basic, but the experience is worth the journey. You can rest in a shared space with a private bed.

Contact us if you need any information.

Direct flight from Padang
Susi Air operates domestic flights between Padang and Rokot Airport (Mentawai). This 40 minutes flight is an alternative to the Mentawai Fast Ferry.
